Ghetto mask ideas part 1. Cyclops

This is part 1 of a series of posts I'll be doing on how to make, cheap masks for Halloween, if you are like me you love Halloween, love comic books, and are flat out broke.  Some characters can be fairly easy to shop for but others can prove to be kind of difficult to achieve.  Like today's subject Cyclops of the x-men, getting a good visor for Cyclops can be quite pricey or very time consuming if going with the pepakura route.  I'm hoping this will help get a decent look for very little cost and less time.

What you'll need
1 pair of cheap sunglasses
1-2 bottles of elmers glue
1 roll of tape
2 plastic cups (mcdonald's Large)
some cardboard, newspaper and sandpaper.

The first thing you want to do is find several pictures to use as reference for the design elements.  Next thing you'll what to do is put tape on the sunglasses, with the tape on start marking the areas that you'll want to add cardboard to in order to really make it stand out.

The next thing you'll want to do is use an exacto knife (have an adult present if not one yourself) and cut the very bottom part off of two mcdonalds cups, determine where they will need to be to cover your ears and tape them to the glasses.

Next comes the fun part you'll want to mix a half a cup of glue and about the same of water ( I actually only used 1/4 a cup of water).  Get some newspaper (already read of course) and tear vertical strips with them.  The first layer of newspaper you want to place on the glasses either vertically or horizontally, the second layer place it on the opposite way.  Let it dry.

For Layer 3 you want to place it on the opposite of layer 2, for layer 4 use white paper, that way it will be easier to paint.

After it's finished drying you can trim it to your liking and sand out any rough parts with sand paper, and you are ready to paint it.  You can paint it any color you'd like traditionally though Cyclop's visors have been either Silver, Black, Yellow, or Gold.  If you really want to make it more accurate you can add red translucent plastic in the eye opening.
